Lee Set to Address U.N. General Assembly: South Korean President to Highlight Democratic Revival and Foreign Policy Agenda

Seoul: President Lee Jae Myung is poised to make a significant appearance at the U.N. General Assembly, where he will assert that "democratic Korea is back" and outline his government's foreign policy direction. This will be Lee's inaugural address at the General Assembly since assuming office in June following an election triggered by former President Yoon Suk Yeol's unsuccessful martial law attempt.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Lee is scheduled to deliver a keynote speech on Tuesday during the 80th session of the General Assembly. On Wednesday, he will also chair an open debate at the U.N. Security Council, a historic first for a South Korean president. South Korea currently holds the council's rotating chairmanship as a nonpermanent member.

During his visit to New York, Lee plans to engage with global investors, hosting an investor relations session on Thursday. This follows his meeting with BlackRock CEO Larry Fink, where they discussed collaboration in artificial intelligence. This meeting resulted in a memorandum of understanding aimed at facilitating significant investments in AI and renewable energy infrastructure.

Earlier, upon his arrival on Monday, Lee met with U.S. lawmakers to seek their support in preventing future incidents of Korean detentions in the United States. This follows public outcry over a recent immigration crackdown at a battery factory construction site in Georgia. Lee also reiterated his commitment to pursuing North Korea's denuclearization through dialogue.
