Calgary: President Lee Jae-myung and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa held a summit in Canada to explore avenues for expanding cooperation in trade, investment, and energy, as announced by Lee's office. This meeting marked the first encounter between the two leaders and took place on the margins of the Group of Seven summit in Calgary.

According to Yonhap News Agency, President Lee acknowledged the strengthened collaboration between South Korea and South Africa since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1992. He also highlighted South Africa's contribution to the Korean War by dispatching troops from 1950 to 1953. Lee proposed that both nations work closely to enhance practical cooperation in the domains of trade, investment, and energy.

President Ramaphosa recognized South Korea as a valuable partner sharing democratic values and expressed his hopes for increased investment and business activities by Korean companies in South Africa. He conveyed his desire to meet President Lee again at the upcoming Group of 20 summit in Johannesburg in November, while Lee expressed his wishes for a successful hosting of the global summit by the African nation.
