Seoul: President Lee Jae Myung announced on Monday that the government will enhance efforts to support the independence and social integration of North Korean defectors. This statement was made during a ceremony marking the second anniversary of North Korean Defectors' Day, with the address delivered by Vice Unification Minister Kim Nam-jung.
According to Yonhap News Agency, President Lee emphasized the government's commitment beyond providing basic settlement support and protection. He highlighted the importance of ensuring defectors' independence and social integration by facilitating their engagement with local communities, thus enabling them to grow and thrive.
President Lee referred to the defectors as individuals seeking a new life in South Korea. He expressed optimism that they will be able to overcome past hardships and achieve stability in their new environment. "We will pay close attention to each and every one of you as you adapt to your communities and take root in your new lives," he assured.
