Kananaskis: President Lee Jae Myung presented South Korea's vision to build stable energy supply chains crucial to the development of the artificial intelligence (AI) sector during his attendance at the Group of Seven (G7) summit Tuesday.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Lee outlined the vision for energy security and AI technologies during an expanded G7 session held in Kananaskis under the theme of "The Future of Energy Security." He emphasized that achieving energy security and stabilizing critical mineral supply chains are vital to global economic growth, proposing the establishment of a stable, economical and safe energy system.

Lee highlighted South Korea's role in enhancing the stability of critical mineral supply chains through its leadership in the Minerals Security Partnership (MSP) and committed to deepening cooperation with G7 members and partner nations. The MSP currently includes 14 participating countries, including South Korea, the United States, Britain and Japan.

On the digital front, Lee underscored South Korea's efforts to support global AI semiconductor supply chains. He said the country aims to improve energy efficiency through the development of low-power AI semiconductors and ensure stable energy supply chains crucial to the AI sector. Lee introduced plans to establish South Korea as the leading AI hub in the Asia-Pacific by encouraging private-sector innovation through tax incentives, regulatory reforms and the creation of a national AI fund.
