Seoul: President Lee Jae Myung on Saturday instructed the government to prepare comprehensive measures to prevent serious industrial accidents and enhance workplace safety. During a Cabinet meeting, Lee urged all relevant ministries to work together to assess the current state of industrial accidents, implement immediate countermeasures, and prepare legislative proposals to reform existing systems if necessary.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Lee highlighted South Korea's troubling status regarding industrial disasters, noting that the country has one of the highest rates of industrial disasters and fatalities in the world. He stated that addressing this issue is not solely the responsibility of the Ministry of Labor but requires a coordinated effort from all relevant ministries.
Lee further emphasized the importance of preventive measures and the establishment of clear accountability, particularly in cases involving fatal workplace accidents. His directives aim to foster a safer work environment and reduce the occurrence of industrial disasters by implementing both immediate and long-term strategies.
