Singapore: President Lee Jae Myung has expressed his intent to expand collaboration with Singapore in innovative sectors such as artificial intelligence (AI), renewable energy, and defense. This announcement came during Lee's meeting with Korean residents in Singapore on the initial day of his three-day state visit, leading up to his discussions with Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the meeting with Prime Minister Wong, scheduled for Monday, will be their second in four months. This follows the elevation of bilateral relations to a strategic partnership during their inaugural talks in South Korea. President Lee emphasized the potential for Korea and Singapore to be ideal partners, given their shared history of leveraging human capital to overcome limited natural resources. He urged the Korean community's support in fostering a new chapter in bilateral relations.
In marking the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations last year, South Korea and Singapore established a strategic partnership, setting a foundation to enhance relations over the coming decades through forward-looking cooperation. President Lee highlighted the agreement between the two nations to bolster cooperation in trade and investment, while also extending their collaboration to encompass future strategic sectors such as AI, energy, green transition, and defense.
Furthermore, President Lee mentioned plans to promote exchanges in tourism, education, culture, and the arts, aiming to further solidify their global partnership. His schedule on Monday also includes a meeting with Singaporean President Tharman Shanmugaratnam and participation in AI Connect, a business forum that will gather business leaders and entrepreneurs from both nations to discuss advancements in the AI sector.
