Seoul: President Lee Jae Myung met with International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Kirsty Coventry on Wednesday to discuss the role of sports in improving inter-Korean relations, as stated by his office. The meeting was held at the presidential office during Coventry's visit to South Korea for a world anti-doping conference in Busan.

According to Yonhap News Agency, President Lee emphasized the importance of the IOC's interest and support for the development of South Korean sports, expressing his desire to see the Olympic flag in the country once more. Coventry, who visited South Korea during the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics, praised the nation for being a key partner in the Olympic movement.

President Lee highlighted the potential of sports to enhance inter-Korean relations, recalling the significant impact of the inter-Korean unified team's entrance at the PyeongChang Olympics. Coventry agreed with this sentiment, noting the importance of such symbolic gestures in fostering peace and unity.

In addition to discussing sports diplomacy, Lee expressed his wish to visit the IOC. Coventry invited him to either the IOC headquarters in Switzerland or the upcoming Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics next February, signaling ongoing collaboration and dialogue between the IOC and South Korea.
