Seoul: President Lee Jae Myung on Monday completed forming his first Cabinet by formally appointing new education and gender ministers. Lee, who marked his first 100 days in office last week, presented letters of appointment to Education Minister Choi Kyo-jin and Won Min-kyong, the new gender equality minister.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Choi, a previous superintendent of the Sejong City Office of Education, was tapped last month after Lee dropped his pick for the previous nominee, Lee Jin-sook, following controversies surrounding her allegation of academic plagiarism. Won's appointment came after the previous nominee, Kang Sun-woo, stepped down amid criticism over alleged workplace abuses during her time as a lawmaker.
Lee also awarded certificates of appointment to Lee Eog-weon, head of the Financial Services Commission, and Ju Biung-ghi, chair of the Fair Trade Commission, among others.
