Seoul: President Lee Jae Myung has appointed a new vice health minister, the head of the customs office, and four other senior government officials, a presidential official announced on Friday. The reshuffle includes notable figures from various government sectors, aiming to strengthen the administration's focus on health, customs, and sustainable development.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Hyun Soo-yeob, previously a spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Welfare, has been appointed as the first vice health minister. This strategic move places Hyun, a Seoul National University nursing graduate with extensive experience in the health ministry, in a pivotal role to address the country's health-related challenges.

Lee Jong-wook, who has served as a senior official at the Korea Customs Service, is now the chief of the agency. Lee brings to the position a strong background in economics from Yonsei University and an extensive career in the customs office, which is expected to bolster the agency's operations and efficiency.

The personnel changes also include Mun Seong-yo, a former senior official at the land ministry, who was named the head of the Saemangeum Development and Investment Agency. Former lawmaker Hong Mi-young has been appointed as the chair of the National Commission on Sustainable Development, reflecting the administration's commitment to advancing sustainable initiatives.

Further appointments include Paik Jong-woo, a professor at Kyung Hee University, as the vice chair of the national committee for people's lives and safety, and Kim Gi-yeong, a professor of library and information science, as the chair of the National Library Committee. These appointments are part of a broader strategy to enhance public welfare and information management across the nation.
