Pyongyang: The foreign minister of Laos has arrived in North Korea, as reported by the country's state media outlet, Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), on Wednesday. This visit occurs approximately a month after summit talks were held between the leaders of North Korea and Laos in October.
According to Yonhap News Agency, a delegation led by Thongsavanh Phomvihane, the foreign minister of Laos, made their way to Pyongyang at the invitation of North Korea's foreign ministry. Although KCNA did not elaborate on the specifics regarding the purpose or length of the visit, it is anticipated that discussions will center on follow-up measures from the previous summit talks between North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and Lao President Thongloun Sisoulith.
During the summit talks, both leaders committed to enhancing bilateral cooperation. The discussions were part of the celebrations for the 80th founding anniversary of North Korea's ruling Workers' Party of Korea on October 10. The Lao president was among the numerous foreign leaders and senior officials present in Pyongyang for the anniversary events, which included a large-scale military parade.
North Korea and Laos have shared diplomatic relations since 1974, maintaining a friendly rapport over the years.
