Los angeles: Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) head coach Marc Dos Santos announced plans to manage the workload of South Korean superstar Son Heung-min as the team prepares for a packed summer schedule.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Dos Santos addressed the media in a press conference prior to LAFC's match against Real Salt Lake, highlighting that the team will face eight matches in August. These will include Major League Soccer (MLS) regular-season games as well as Leagues Cup fixtures.

"We are going to face a very condensed schedule, and our conversation, not only with Sonny but other key players, is that we have to manage (their minutes)," Dos Santos explained. He emphasized the importance of strategic planning, noting that players might be substituted earlier to preserve their energy for upcoming matches. This collaborative effort involves the players, coaches, and performance team to maintain optimal performance levels during the intense period.

Son Heung-min's recent performance includes scoring his first MLS goal of the season against LA Galaxy, breaking a 13-match goalless streak in league play. Previously, his only goals this season were during the Concacaf Champions Cup tournament. Son, who recently turned 34, has demonstrated strong performances against Real Salt Lake, including a memorable hat trick last September and a subsequent goal with two assists.

Dos Santos initiated the conversation with Son, recognizing the player's tendency to insist on playing every game. "I brought it up to him because the players always tell you that they are good, they are ready and they could play every game," Dos Santos noted. He explained the necessity of monitoring players' performance levels over time to prevent declines due to fatigue. Son, along with his teammates, understands and supports the coaching strategy to manage game time effectively.
