KOTRA Holds Seminar in Malaysia to Support South Korean Firms’ Local Investments

Kuala Lumpur: The Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency, known as KOTRA, has announced the launch of a seminar in Malaysia aimed at supporting South Korean companies in making local investments and integrating into global semiconductor supply chains. The two-day event commenced on Monday in Kuala Lumpur, co-hosted by KOTRA in partnership with the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, the Korean Embassy in Malaysia, and the Korea Semiconductor Industry Association (KSIA).

According to Yonhap News Agency, Malaysia's Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) and the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) are also involved in the seminar. The focus of the event is to explore methods to enhance semiconductor cooperation between South Korea and Malaysia. Additionally, South Korean firms will present their technological advancements during the seminar.

KOTRA President and CEO Kang Kyung-sung highlighted Malaysia's significant role in the global semiconductor market. With Malaysia accounting for over 13 percent of the worldwide semiconductor back-end processing market and recognized as the sixth-largest semiconductor exporter globally, it is becoming an important partner for Korean companies. Kang emphasized the strategic importance of Malaysia as ASEAN's largest supply chain hub.

KOTRA plans to continue strengthening the cooperation framework to facilitate the entry of Korean materials, components, and equipment companies into Malaysia. The agency aims to expand these companies' participation in the global value chain. On Tuesday, 15 South Korean companies specializing in semiconductor equipment and design are anticipated to engage in over 100 export and partnership consultations with local firms that focus on semiconductor testing, packaging, and distribution.
