Bucheon: Korean Air Lines Co., South Korea's leading air carrier, announced plans to invest 1.2 trillion won (US$844.3 million) to develop a state-of-the-art aviation research and training hub in Bucheon, located west of Seoul. The project aims to position the company at the forefront of aviation innovation and training.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the facility will span 65,800 square meters and is scheduled to begin construction in 2027, with an expected opening in 2030. The hub will employ over 1,000 individuals, including researchers and flight instructors, and will feature a drone research center, a flight training center, and a safety experience facility. This initiative aligns with Korean Air's long-term strategy to advance aviation technology, pilot training, and sustainability.

A signing ceremony for the project took place on Tuesday in Bucheon, attended by key figures such as Korean Air Vice Chairman Woo Kee-hong and Bucheon Mayor Cho Yong-eek. The facility's flight training center will merge the training operations of Korean Air and Asiana Airlines Inc., facilitating the annual training of up to 21,600 pilots.

A representative from Korean Air stated, "Through bold investments in research, training and technology, we are laying the foundation to lead the future of air mobility while deepening our commitment to safety, sustainability and global connectivity."
