Incheon: Korean Air Co. is set to construct a next-generation aircraft maintenance hangar at Incheon International Airport, South Korea's primary gateway, through a joint investment deal worth 176 billion won (US$119.2 million) with the airport operator. The airline announced this development on Monday.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the new hangar will be situated within the airport's High Tech Aviation Complex, designed to facilitate airframe inspections, component checks, heavy maintenance, and aircraft modification. The agreement between Korean Air and Incheon International Airport Corp. was formalized during a signing ceremony held at a hotel in Incheon, west of Seoul.

The hangar will cover a 69,299-square-meter site, capable of accommodating two wide-body aircraft and one narrow-body aircraft simultaneously. Construction is scheduled to commence in 2027, with operations expected to begin by late 2029.

Korean Air emphasized that the facility will enhance its maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) capabilities, particularly in anticipation of launching an integrated carrier following its acquisition of Asiana Airlines Inc. A Korean Air official stated, "We will work closely with Incheon International Airport Corp. to ensure the project progresses smoothly and on time," highlighting the airline's commitment to innovation under its safety-first principle.
