Korea Southern Power Chosen as Supplier for Clean Hydrogen-Generated Electricity.

Seoul: The state-run Korea Southern Power Co. has been selected as a supplier for electricity generated from clean hydrogen, according to industry sources. The company recently confirmed its status as the sole preferred bidder for this government-led initiative and is set to supply 750 GWh of electricity annually using clean hydrogen. According to Yonhap News Agency, commercial operations are slated to begin in 2028, with the government planning to purchase electricity over a 15-year period. Eligible bidders for this project were required to meet stringent environmental criteria, emitting no more than 4 kilograms of CO2 equivalent per kilogram of hydrogen. Park Chan-ki, director general for hydrogen economy policy, stated, "The government will continue efforts to secure cost-effective clean hydrogen and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by collaborating closely with local industries." He also highlighted the potential for increased participation in the auction market as more successful cases emerge, with auct ions scheduled to open annually.
