Korea Aerospace Industries completes delivery of 60 FA-50 fighters to air force
South Koreans attend a ceremony to mark the shipment of the final FA-50 light fighter made by Korea Aerospace Industries Ltd. (KAI) at KAI headquarters in Sacheon, South Korea 21 October 2016. The delivery marks the ending of KAI's three-year delivery of a total of 60 FA-50 fighters to the South Korean Air Force under a contract. The home-made fighters are the replacements for the air force's outdated F-5E/F fighters. The FA-50 is a two-seat, light multi-role fighter derived from the T-50 advanced supersonic trainer already in service with the South Korean Air Force. It has a max speed of Mach 1.5 and can be armed with 4.5 tons of ordnance, including air-to-air and air-to-surface missiles, as well as bombs and an automatic cannon. The Philippines has also ordered 12 South Korean fighters.
