Beijing: North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and Chinese President Xi Jinping are set to engage in an "in-depth" summit, according to China's foreign ministry. This announcement was made following the recent appearance of both leaders, along with Russian President Vladimir Putin, at a significant military parade at Tiananmen Square in Beijing.

According to Yonhap News Agency, China's foreign ministry spokesman, Guo Jiakun, revealed details of the impending summit, although the specific timing remains undisclosed. The summit's agenda will focus on bilateral relations and a comprehensive exchange of views on issues of mutual interest. Guo emphasized China's aim to enhance strategic communication with North Korea and to deepen cooperation in state governance, signaling an intent to further cultivate traditional ties with Pyongyang.

This anticipated summit would mark the first meeting between Kim and Xi in over six years, with their last encounter taking place in Pyongyang in June 2019. Kim's current visit to Beijing, which marks his third day in the city, included attending the military parade commemorating the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II, accompanied by his daughter and heir apparent, Ju-ae. Following the parade, Kim, Xi, and Putin appeared together at a reception hosted by Xi, which was followed by a separate summit between Kim and Putin.
