Seoul: Kia Tigers starter James Naile has made a significant impact in the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) since his debut, and as he enters his third season, his focus is firmly on refining his existing skills.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Naile has decided against making major adjustments to his pitching style in 2026, opting instead to concentrate on executing his established repertoire.
Naile, who first dominated the league in 2024 with his effective use of the sweeper, refined his arsenal in 2025 with a new sinker grip and increased reliance on his changeup. For the current season, Naile expressed confidence in his existing techniques, emphasizing the importance of routine and smart play over drastic changes. "No big adjustments. Just trying to fine-tune and continue to get a little bit better," Naile stated, highlighting his commitment to maintaining consistency on the mound.
In his previous seasons, Naile has demonstrated remarkable prowess. He led the league with a 2.53 ERA in 2024 and improved his performance in 2025 with a 2.25 ERA, second only to league MVP Cody Ponce. His remarkable start to the 2025 season, where he maintained a 0.29 ERA over his first five starts, underscored his potential to achieve a sub-2.00 ERA for an entire season.
Despite the individual accolades, Naile remains focused on team success, particularly after the Tigers' contrasting fortunes over the last two seasons. While they clinched the Korean Series title in 2024, the Tigers struggled in 2025, missing the postseason. Naile is optimistic about the upcoming season, hoping that the team has learned from past experiences to improve in 2026.
As Naile continues his career in the KBO, he has not ruled out a return to Major League Baseball, though he insists it would have to be under the right circumstances. For now, his priority is contributing to the Tigers and potentially extending his career in South Korea.
