Seoul: The Samsung Lions have announced the signing of former Major League Baseball pitcher Austin Voth as a short-term injury replacement. The Lions revealed that Voth will earn $150,000 under a six-week contract, stepping in temporarily for starter Ariel Jurado.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the Korea Baseball Organization allows teams to sign replacements for injured foreign players who are out for six weeks or longer. Jurado, who was diagnosed with shoulder inflammation last week, is anticipated to be sidelined for at least six weeks. He is currently ranked third in the KBO with 107 innings pitched and sixth with a 3.11 ERA.

Voth, 34, has appeared in 210 MLB games, including 39 starts, while playing for five different teams. In the current year, he participated in two games for the Toronto Blue Jays and one game for the Minnesota Twins. Over his MLB career, Voth holds a 17-20 record with a 4.84 ERA in 370 1/3 innings. In Triple-A, he compiled an 18-33 record with a 4.22 ERA in 99 appearances, including 91 starts.

Previously, Voth played for the Japanese club Chiba Lotte Marines in 2025, achieving a 3-9 record with a 3.96 ERA in 22 games. He is known for his six-pitch arsenal, comprising a four-seam fastball, cutter, sweeper, curveball, sinker, and splitter. The Lions confirmed that Voth recently passed his physical in South Korea and will soon join their rotation.

The Lions are currently leading the standings with a 53-33-2 record, maintaining a two-game advantage over the KT Wiz. They also boast the second-lowest team ERA at 4.11. Additionally, the Lions' rotation was bolstered with the addition of former major leaguer Chris Paddack on July 11. Paddack impressed in his KBO debut, pitching six innings of one-run ball against the Lotte Giants.
