Justice Minister Nominee Jung Sung-ho Advocates for Prosecution Reform with National Consensus

Seoul: Justice Minister nominee Jung Sung-ho expressed confidence on Tuesday that the government's prosecution reform, aimed at separating investigation and indictment functions, will face minimal resistance from prosecutors.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Jung emphasized the existence of a national consensus on the need to separate the prosecution's investigation and indictment roles, redistributing the concentrated powers of the prosecution. He noted that there is significant public anticipation for changes in the prosecution system, which has previously caused public anxiety.

Jung clarified that the reform should not be seen as a move to disband the prosecution but should align with public expectations. He underscored that prosecution reform is a legislative matter requiring bipartisan agreement and thorough consultations within the National Assembly.

The nominee expressed his belief that there would be minimal opposition from within the prosecution, except from a very small number of politically biased prosecutors. He asserted that most prosecutors are committed to their responsibility and take pride in serving the public.
