Seoul: Investigators are set to begin a second day of questioning of impeached President Yoon Suk Yeol over his short-lived imposition of martial law at 2 p.m. Thursday, the state anti-corruption agency said.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO) announced that the session was rescheduled from the morning to the afternoon after Yoon requested a postponement, citing health reasons. Despite the rescheduling, Yoon’s lawyer, Yun Gap-geun, stated that the president will not undergo any further questioning.
“President Yoon is not well and fully explained his position yesterday so there is nothing more to be interrogated about,” Yun Gap-geun told Yonhap News Agency. Yoon spent Wednesday night at a detention center following over 10 hours of questioning at the CIO office in Gwacheon, just south of Seoul, after being detained at his residence earlier the same day.
The embattled president is facing charges of insurrection and abuse of power related to his declaration of martial law on December 3. During Wednesday’s session, he refused to answer any questions, as noted by the CIO. In a legal maneuver, Yoon’s lawyers have separately filed for a review of the legality of the warrant issued for his detention.
