Alcantara: Innospace Co., a South Korean space startup, announced on Thursday that the inaugural test flight of its multipurpose suborbital rocket, Sebit, was terminated after the vehicle strayed from its intended path.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Sebit successfully launched from the Alcantara Space Center in Brazil at 4:30 p.m. local time on Wednesday. However, the rocket veered off its planned trajectory, leading the Brazilian Air Force to engage the flight termination system, as stated by Innospace.
Sebit is equipped with a 3-ton-class hybrid engine and is engineered to reach altitudes of up to 100 kilometers. Fortunately, the rocket descended within a designated maritime safety zone off the coast of Brazil, with no reported casualties or damage to infrastructure, the company confirmed.
Innospace is currently analyzing the flight data to identify the cause of the trajectory deviation and subsequent flight termination. The company intends to use the insights gained from this incident to prepare for future test flights.
