Seoul: The independent counsel appointed to investigate former President Yoon Suk Yeol's brief martial law imposition has committed to conducting the investigation strictly according to the "logic of investigation." Cho Eun-suk made this statement shortly after President Lee Jae-myung appointed him and two other independent counsels to handle the investigations into Yoon's case, allegations of corruption involving his wife, and the tragic death of a Marine.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Cho emphasized his dedication to meticulously examining the case, likening his approach to writing a 'sacho,' a historical draft record of court activities from the Joseon Dynasty. He assured that his efforts as special prosecutor would align solely with investigative logic, aiming to maximize the results of previous inquiries by the police, the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials, and the prosecution. Cho, who formerly served as chief of the Seoul High Prosecutors Office and acting chief of the Board of Audit and Inspection, is set to lead the investigation into charges against Yoon, including insurrection and military mutiny related to the martial law incident in December.

In related developments, Lee Myeong-hyeon, the independent counsel assigned to the Marine's death case, expressed his determination to uncover the substantial truth behind the incident. Lee, a former senior official at the defense ministry's prosecutors office, will investigate claims that Yoon interfered in a prior probe concerning the death of Cpl. Chae, who perished during a 2023 search mission for torrential rain victims.

Meanwhile, Min Joong-ki, responsible for investigating former first lady Kim Keon Hee, highlighted the necessity of objectively examining the allegations. Min, a former chief of the Seoul Central District Court, will probe into accusations of Kim's involvement in a stock price manipulation scheme, the acceptance of a luxury bag, and potential interference in election nominations.
