Seoul: The independent counsel tasked with investigating the former President Yoon Suk Yeol's attempt to impose martial law has pledged to conduct the investigation strictly according to the "logic of investigation." This commitment was made by Cho Eun-suk, the newly appointed independent counsel, following his designation by President Lee Jae-myung alongside two other counsels to probe Yoon's case, corruption allegations involving Yoon's wife, and the death of a Marine.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Cho Eun-suk emphasized his commitment to a meticulous investigation, likening his approach to drafting a 'sacho,' a historical record of court activities from the Joseon Dynasty. Cho stressed the importance of ensuring that the investigative efforts of the police, the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials, and the prosecution are not in vain.

Cho, who previously served as the chief of the Seoul High Prosecutors Office and acting chief of the Board of Audit and Inspection, will lead the investigation into charges against Yoon, including insurrection and military mutiny, related to the martial law incident in December.

In parallel, Lee Myeong-hyeon, the independent counsel responsible for investigating the Marine's death, expressed his determination to uncover the truth. He recalled a past instance where he refused to cover up a case, highlighting his commitment to justice. Lee, a former senior official at the defense ministry's prosecutors office, is set to investigate allegations that Yoon interfered in an earlier probe concerning the death of Cpl. Chae, who lost his life during a search mission for torrential rain victims in 2023.
