Incheon: Incheon United striker Stefan Mugosa was named the season's first winner of the Player of the Month award in South Korean football Wednesday.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the Korea Professional Football League (K League) announced that Mugosa outperformed three candidates to secure the Player of the Month honor for the February-March period. The new season began on February 28, with the league evaluating players' performances over the initial five matches played through March.
The award, sponsored by the league's official video game partner, Electronic Arts (EA), was determined through a combination of votes: the K League's technical study group contributed 60 percent, fan votes on the K League website made up 25 percent, and players of EA Sports FC Online accounted for the remaining 15 percent.
In the technical study group voting, Mugosa tied for second place, with Yago Cariello of Ulsan HD FC leading the category. However, Mugosa dominated both the fan voting and the game players' voting, which secured his overall victory.
Originating from Montenegro, Mugosa made a significant impact in Incheon's first five matches, scoring four goals and providing an assist. His outstanding performances earned him a spot on the K League 1's Team of the Week twice during this period.
This accolade marks Mugosa's fourth career Player of the Year award and his first since April 2022.
