Seoul: Hyundai Motor Co. announced its plan to launch the all-new Tucson sport utility vehicle (SUV) in the domestic market next month, aiming to expand its hybrid lineup. The latest Tucson marks the fifth generation of the model and comes six years after the previous generation's release, offering two versions: a turbo 1.6-liter gasoline engine and a 1.6-liter turbocharged gasoline-hybrid powertrain.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the gasoline turbo model is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, while the hybrid model boasts a fuel economy of 17.4 kilometers per liter. The new Tucson incorporates advanced safety features, including a redundant power supply system for door unlocking, which ensures the door-unlocking function remains operational even if the main power supply is disrupted during a collision. This is the first time Hyundai has applied such technology to its vehicles.

The compact SUV also introduces Hyundai Motor's next-generation infotainment system, Pleos Connect, marking its debut in a Hyundai SUV. This system provides access to Gleo AI, a generative artificial intelligence (AI) agent, enhancing the vehicle's technological offerings.
