Changwon: Hyundai Rotem Co., a subsidiary of Hyundai Motor Group specializing in trains and defense, has shipped its first batch of high-speed train exports to Uzbekistan, completing production ahead of schedule. The shipment was celebrated with a ceremony in Changwon, located approximately 300 kilometers southeast of Seoul, attended by officials from both South Korea and Uzbekistan, including Uzbek Deputy Prime Minister Jamshid Khodjaev and Hyundai Rotem executives.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the shipment consists of six high-speed trains, totaling 42 cars. These trains are customized to suit Uzbekistan's track conditions and desert climate and are based on Hyundai Rotem's EMU-260 model, which has been in commercial operation since 2021. The trains are intended for long-distance routes covering about 1,286 kilometers in Uzbekistan.

During the ceremony, Kim Jeong-hoon, head of Hyundai Rotem's Rail Solutions Division, remarked on the significance of the early shipment as a testament to South Korea's advanced high-speed rail technology. Hyundai Rotem secured the contract with Uzbekistan Railways Corp. in June 2024, marking the first overseas export of domestically developed high-speed trains from South Korea.

Hyundai Rotem aims to leverage the Uzbekistan project to expand its future high-speed rail exports. "We will ensure smooth delivery and maintenance support for all trainsets," a company official stated. "Together with our domestic partners, we will continue promoting the excellence of K-high-speed rail around the world."
