Hyundai Motor’s Global Sales Decline in January Amid Decreased Overseas Demand

Seoul: Hyundai Motor Co., South Korea's largest automaker, reported a 1 percent decrease in sales for January compared to the same month last year, primarily due to a reduction in demand from international markets. The company announced that it sold a total of 307,699 vehicles last month, a slight drop from the 310,962 units sold in January of the previous year.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the decline in overall sales was influenced by a 2.8 percent decrease in overseas sales, which totaled 257,491 units. In contrast, domestic sales showed a positive trend, increasing by 9 percent to reach 50,208 units. Within the domestic market, Hyundai sold 15,648 sedans, and its sport utility vehicle (SUV) sales amounted to 18,447 units. The company's luxury Genesis brand also contributed with 8,671 units sold.

A Hyundai Motor official stated that despite the unpredictable business environment anticipated for this year, the company aims to expand its market share by introducing new models with robust product competitiveness.
