Busan: Hyundai Motor Co. announced its plans to supply hydrogen-powered waste collection vehicles to the Busan metropolitan city as part of the city's initiative to transition its waste collection fleet to clean energy.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Hyundai unveiled two models of hydrogen-powered waste collection trucks based on its Xcient fuel cell heavy-duty truck platform during an event at Busan City Hall. These vehicles will replace the aging diesel-powered waste trucks currently in use in South Korea's second-largest city, which is approximately 320 kilometers southeast of Seoul.
The city has outlined a plan to deploy a total of 65 hydrogen-powered waste collection vehicles by 2028. This year, Hyundai is set to deliver five units to four local districts, with further expansion to additional districts planned for next year. Busan officials have highlighted that the quieter and vibration-free hydrogen trucks are expected to considerably enhance the working conditions for waste collection workers.
A Hyundai Motor official stated, "We will ensure timely production and delivery of the hydrogen waste trucks to support Busan's air quality improvement efforts."
