Guangzhou: Hyundai Motor Group has clinched a significant order to supply over 200 hydrogen-powered buses to Guangzhou, marking the largest single hydrogen bus procurement deal in China to date.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Hyundai Motor's Chinese hydrogen fuel-cell subsidiary, HTWO Guangzhou, in collaboration with Chinese commercial vehicle manufacturer Kaiwo Group, emerged as the leading bidder in a recent evaluation conducted by Guangzhou Public Transport Group Co. for the city's procurement project. Under Guangzhou's plan to introduce a total of 450 hydrogen buses, HTWO Guangzhou and Kaiwo Group will provide 224 of the jointly developed models.

The deal, the largest single order for hydrogen buses in China, did not disclose the financial terms. This achievement follows a previous contract secured by the two companies last month, where they won 25 out of 50 units in a separate bid from the same bus operator. Altogether, the companies will deliver a fleet of 249 hydrogen buses to Guangzhou Public Transport Group within this year.

Hyundai Motor stated that the deal underscores the quality and durability of the hydrogen buses developed in partnership with HTWO Guangzhou and Kaiwo Group. The company anticipates that this order will bolster its standing in China's rapidly expanding hydrogen mobility market.
