Seoul: Hyundai Motor Group announced its collaboration with the government to establish a national certification for Plug and Charge (PnC) technology, aiming to promote the wider adoption of electric vehicles (EVs).
According to Yonhap News Agency, the automaker signed a memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment and the Korea Environment Corp. on Monday. This agreement focuses on establishing a national certification system for EV PnC services.
PnC is an international standard technology that simplifies the charging process by automatically completing user authentication, charging, and payment with just a charging cable. In contrast to conventional EV charging services, which require a membership card or credit card, PnC uses encrypted authentication between the vehicle and the charging station, ensuring a more secure and convenient charging experience.
Under the agreement, Hyundai Motor Group will transfer its PnC certification technology and certification authority to the government. This move is expected to expand the technology's reach, integrating it with a broader network of EV charging stations across South Korea.
