Seoul: Hyundai Engineering and Construction Co. (Hyundai EandC), one of South Korea's largest builders, on Friday reported its second-quarter net profit of 157 billion won (US$109.1 million), down 1 percent from a year earlier. The financial performance reflects the company's ongoing efforts to balance profitability with challenging market conditions.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the company, part of Hyundai Motor Group, revealed in a regulatory filing that its operating profit for the April-June period rose 20.6 percent on-year to 261.8 billion won, despite a decrease in revenue by 11.4 percent to 6.84 trillion won. This indicates a strategic focus on improving operational efficiency, even as sales figures declined.
The earnings exceeded market expectations, with the average estimate of net profit by analysts standing at 128.7 billion won, as per a survey conducted by Yonhap Infomax, the financial data firm of Yonhap News Agency. This highlights Hyundai EandC's ability to outperform analyst predictions, despite a slight decline in net profit.
