Seoul: HS Hyosung Corp. Vice Chairman Cho Hyun-sang has been appointed to lead the business advisory council of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), as announced by the Korean Chamber of Commerce and Industries (KCCI) on Wednesday. Cho's leadership role will influence the business dialogue within the Asia-Pacific region as he takes on this significant position. According to Yonhap News Agency, Cho was unanimously elected as chair of the 2025 APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC) during the fourth ABAC meeting held in Lima, Peru. His appointment marks a pivotal moment for business representation in APEC, reflecting Cho's capability to bridge the gap between business perspectives and regional economic policies. Upon his appointment, Cho expressed his commitment to "strive to communicate the business community's perspectives to the APEC leaders and work toward enhancing shared values in the Asia-Pacific region." His role is expected to facilitate better communication between business leaders and APEC officials, with a focus on sustainable economic growth and cooperation. In his capacity as chair, Cho will deliver a recommendations report from the business community to APEC leaders at the 2025 APEC summit, which is scheduled to take place in Gyeongju, South Korea, approximately 275 kilometers southeast of Seoul. His leadership is anticipated to play a crucial role in shaping the agenda and outcomes of the summit. Moreover, Cho will preside over the ABAC-APEC Dialogue event, ensuring that key business concerns are addressed in discussions with APEC leaders. Chey Tae-won, SK Group chief and head of the KCCI, will also play a significant role by chairing the main session of the APEC CEO summit in Gyeongju next year, further highlighting South Korea's involvement and influence in the upcoming summit.
