Pyeongtaek: South Korea reported a highly pathogenic avian influenza case at a laying hen farm in southwestern Gyeonggi Province, authorities said Friday.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the H5 bird flu was detected at the farm in Pyeongtaek, about 50 kilometers south of Seoul, as confirmed by the Central Disaster Management Headquarters (CDMH). In response, the CDMH dispatched a team to the site to implement quarantine measures, including access control, culling, and an epidemiological analysis.

Additionally, a 36-hour temporary ban on movements was issued, affecting all hen farms nationwide, as well as related livestock facilities and transport vehicles. Authorities have urged the public to avoid areas frequented by migratory birds that may carry the virus and to adhere strictly to quarantine practices.
