Hegseth to Collaborate with State and Energy Departments on Nuclear Submarines for South Korea

Washington: U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced plans to work closely with the State and Energy departments to advance the development of nuclear-powered submarines for South Korea. This announcement was made during a press conference following security discussions with South Korean Defense Minister Ahn Gyu-back.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Hegseth emphasized the commitment to fulfilling President Trump's directive, which includes South Korea constructing nuclear-powered submarines at a U.S. shipyard owned by South Korea's Hanwha Ocean. Hegseth reiterated the importance of strengthening alliances, stating that President Trump aims for allies to possess superior capabilities.

Hegseth also highlighted South Korea's advanced shipbuilding industry and expressed anticipation for increased collaboration in both surface warfare and submarine projects. This initiative underscores the strategic partnership between the U.S. and South Korea and their shared defense objectives.
