Seoul: HD Korea Shipbuilding and Offshore Engineering Co. (KSOE) announced on Friday that it has secured orders totaling 2.1 trillion won (approximately US$1.4 billion) for the construction of eight vessels, which include six container ships and two gas carriers.
According to Yonhap News Agency, HD KSOE, a subsidiary of HD Hyundai Co., has finalized a significant contract valued at 1.78 trillion won with an undisclosed Asian client for the construction of six container ships. Additionally, the company has signed a 352.1 billion-won agreement with a customer based in Oceania for the creation of two large gas carriers.
The vessels, expected to be completed by 2029, will be constructed at the HD Hyundai Industries Co.'s shipyard. So far this year, HD KSOE has secured deals amounting to a total of $10.81 billion for 94 ships, reaching 46.4 percent of its annual order goal.
The company's current order backlog, slated for 2026, comprises 26 container ships, 26 petroleum product carriers, and 20 liquefied petroleum gas and ammonia carriers, highlighting its robust presence and demand in the global shipbuilding industry.
