Busan: HD Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries Co. announced it has secured a 741.2 billion-won (US$506 million) order to build two liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers for a North American shipping company. The company confirmed the order in a recent regulatory filing, stating that the two LNG carriers are scheduled for delivery by December 2028.
According to Yonhap News Agency, HD Hyundai Samho Heavy is one of three affiliates of HD Korea Shipbuilding and Offshore Engineering Co. (HD KSOE). The other two affiliates include HD Hyundai Heavy Industries Co. and HD Hyundai Mipo Dockyard Co. Notably, HD KSOE operates as a subholding company under HD Hyundai Co., which is recognized as South Korea's leading shipbuilding group. In a related development, HD Hyundai Mipo is set to merge with HD Hyundai Heavy next month.
With this latest contract, HD KSOE has amassed $14.24 billion in ship orders for the year, reaching 78.9 percent of its annual order target of $18.05 billion.
