Seoul: HD Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries Co., a South Korean shipbuilder, announced on Thursday that it has secured a substantial order worth 242.2 billion won (approximately US$173 million) to construct two crude oil carriers for an African shipping company. These vessels, each boasting a capacity of 157,000 deadweight tonnes (DWT), are expected to be delivered by December 15, 2027, as per a regulatory filing from the company.

According to Yonhap News Agency, HD Hyundai Samho is part of a trio of affiliates under HD Korea Shipbuilding and Offshore Engineering Co. (HD KSOE), which includes HD Hyundai Heavy Industries Co. and HD Hyundai Mipo Dockyard Co. HD KSOE serves as a subholding company of HD Hyundai, formerly known as Hyundai Heavy Industries Holdings.

In line with the ongoing restructuring efforts within South Korea's largest shipbuilding group, HD Hyundai Heavy and HD Hyundai Mipo are slated to merge into a single entity by December. This strategic move is part of the company's broader efforts to streamline operations and enhance competitiveness in the global shipbuilding market.
