Seoul: Hanwha Systems Co., a defense electronics and ICT solutions unit under Hanwha Group, announced on Friday that it has secured an 86.6 billion won (US$57.4 million) contract from the country's arms procurement agency to provide maintenance support for a military satellite communications system. The contract entails a performance-based logistics (PBL) agreement with the Defense Acquisition Program Administration, ensuring the operation and maintenance of the high-capacity data transmission system through March 2031.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the PBL arrangement requires the contractor to be responsible for maintaining equipment performance, focusing on metrics such as the rate of operation and support timeline. Payment is contingent upon the successful fulfillment of these performance targets. Hanwha Systems has a longstanding history of developing and supplying critical components for military satellite communication systems, including satellite terminals and network control units.

The company emphasized that its satellite modems are designed according to international standards while integrating defense-specific technologies, particularly enhanced security features. This contract highlights Hanwha Systems' ongoing commitment to advancing military communication systems and supporting national defense capabilities.
