Oslo: Hanwha Aerospace Co., a South Korean defense company, has secured a significant defense contract from Norway to supply land-based long-range precision artillery systems, as announced by the Oslo government on Thursday. The contract, valued at 19 billion Norwegian kroner (approximately US$1.9 billion), involves the provision of the Chunmoo multiple rocket launcher system (MRLS) to the Norwegian Armed Forces.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the agreement includes not just the MRLS but also missiles, launch vehicles, training equipment, and integrated logistics support. Norway's Ministry of Defence highlighted that these systems would equip the Norwegian Army with a new long-range strike capability, offering missile range options of up to 500 kilometers.
The contract encompasses 16 launch units and a larger number of missiles. This development is expected to significantly enhance the operational capabilities of the Norwegian military forces.
