Santiago: Hanwha Aerospace Co. announced its partnership with Spain's defense company Indra Group to collaborate on a military project in Chile.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the two companies signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on Wednesday during the International Air and Space Fair, or FIDAE 2026, in Santiago, Chile. The agreement aims to jointly propose an integrated solution for Chile's armored vehicle modernization project.

Under the terms of the MOU, Hanwha Aerospace will supply platforms such as its Tigon wheeled armored vehicle. Indra will be responsible for mission systems equipment, including communications, situational awareness, and command and control (C2). The Spanish company will also support the coordination of operations in South America.

The collaboration extends beyond Chile, as the two companies plan to jointly develop the ground defense market in Central and South America. Indra Group, a leading European defense company, operates in more than 140 countries and has advanced technological capabilities in mission systems for ground weapon systems. The company also boasts a strong track record and extensive local network in Central and South America.

Kim Dong-hyun, head of the land systems business at Hanwha Aerospace, stated, "We plan to actively promote our ground defense solutions in South America by leveraging Indra's capabilities in defense electronics and its local network in the region." He added that the partnership aims to strengthen the defense capabilities and revitalize the defense industry in South American countries, including Chile.
