Daejeon: The government and the ruling People Power Party are set to discuss preventive measures following the tragic stabbing of an 8-year-old student by a school teacher in Daejeon last week. The discussions, scheduled for Monday, aim to address the pressing issue of school safety in the wake of this incident.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the consultations will also explore the possibility of amending a law, tentatively named the "Ha-neul Act" after the deceased student. This proposed legislation would focus on supporting and managing teachers who have mental health disorders, ensuring they receive the necessary attention and care. The discussions will also consider measures to restrict access to schools to prevent such incidents in the future.

Police have reported that the suspect, identified by the surname Myeong, had been undergoing treatment for depression since 2018. Myeong had contemplated suicide during a sick leave that started last December, from which she returned to work earlier than planned. Additionally, Myeong allegedly assaulted a colleague just days before the fatal stabbing occurred.
