Seoul: The government announced plans on Monday to introduce an AI-driven information and price comparison platform for agricultural products by next year. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to incorporate AI-based public services.

According to Yonhap News Agency, during the first meeting of a new government consultation group composed of science and technology ministers, including the minister of science and ICT, officials revealed ten AI projects designed to enhance public services in consumption, health care, and safety. The platform for agricultural products is one of four key initiatives set to receive 10 billion won (US$6.79 million) over the next two years. The remaining projects will receive 3 billion won each.

The AI consumption information platform will provide real-time price updates and suggest optimal purchasing locations based on consumer location. It will also recommend alternative products when prices increase due to supply shortages, with test operations anticipated in the latter half of next year.

The government also plans to launch an "AI Safety Guardian for Human-Applied Products" app by 2027. This app will display safety and ingredient information for items like food and pharmaceuticals, while offering real-time licensing data, consultation, and legal guidance.

Additional projects include creating an AI guide for national heritage sites, which will offer AI-generated commentary for visitors without time, location, or language barriers. Furthermore, an AI tax adviser service will be developed to support taxpayers during peak filing periods with AI-based phone and chatbot assistance.

AI services will also extend to police operations, covering areas such as transportation management, safety monitoring, and responses to online crimes as part of the government's new AI public service initiatives.
