Seoul: The government has announced plans to mitigate the impact of recent extreme weather conditions, including heat waves and heavy rain, on agricultural products and livestock to prevent subsequent price increases. Senior officials emphasized the need for immediate action during a meeting held on Monday.
According to Yonhap News Agency, First Vice Finance Minister Lee Hyoung-il highlighted concerns about potential damage to crops and livestock due to the unusual weather patterns. During a meeting with ministries responsible for price management, Lee stressed the importance of closely monitoring the situation to manage the supply and prices of essential products such as potatoes and cabbages.
In response to these challenges, the agriculture ministry has pledged to work alongside local governments to minimize the damage caused by the heavy rains. Measures will also be implemented to increase the supply of key commodities, including potatoes and local premium "hanwoo" beef, to stabilize market prices. These efforts come after some regions, including parts of Seoul, experienced flooding due to unprecedented rainfall following record-high temperatures in early July.
