Seoul: The Military Manpower Administration announced that its budget for the upcoming year has been set at 517.8 billion won (US$351.5 million), reflecting a 9.4 percent increase compared to the previous year. This budget boost indicates the government's continued focus on bolstering its military readiness and capabilities.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the agency has allocated 20.4 billion won specifically to enhance efforts in preventing and tracking down attempts to evade the mandatory military service, a requirement for all able-bodied South Korean men to serve at least 18 months in the military. Additionally, 11.9 billion won has been earmarked for the acquisition of medical and digital forensic equipment, underscoring the importance of modernizing military and investigative facilities.

In a related development, the National Assembly recently passed the nation's budget for the next year, amounting to 727.9 trillion won. This budget aims to increase spending on both the economy and defense, following a last-minute agreement between rival political parties, highlighting the strategic priorities of the government in light of current geopolitical challenges.
