Seoul: A dedicated government task force to support the families of the victims of last month's Jeju Air Co. plane crash has officially begun operations, the transport ministry said Monday. The task force is set to assume the duties of an integrated support center that was established on December 29, following the tragic crash of a Jeju Air B737-800 aircraft. The incident resulted in the loss of 179 lives at Muan International Airport, situated approximately 290 kilometers southwest of Seoul.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the task force involves collaborative efforts from several key governmental bodies. These include the transport, interior, and welfare ministries, in conjunction with the South Jeolla Province government, the Gwangju metropolitan city government, Muan County, and the Korea Airports Corp. The primary office for this task force will be established in Sejong, the administrative city, with additional plans for an on-site office near Muan International Airport.

The core mission of the task force is to deliver comprehensive support to the families affected by the crash, while also ensuring a meticulous investigation into the accident's causes. A government official emphasized the commitment of the task force to assist the families in their recovery and return to daily life, stating that every member will approach this responsibility with utmost dedication.
