GM Korea’s March Sales Surge by 24.2% Due to Strong Export Performance

Seoul: GM Korea Co., the South Korean arm of General Motors Co., announced a significant increase in its sales for March, marking a 24.2 percent rise compared to the same month last year. This growth was primarily fueled by robust overseas demand.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the company reported total sales of 51,215 vehicles in March, a considerable jump from the 41,244 units sold in the previous year. Despite a decline in domestic sales, which fell by 34.8 percent from 1,397 to 911 units, the company saw a substantial boost in exports. Exports surged by 26.2 percent, reaching 50,304 units compared to 39,847 units a year earlier.

The Chevrolet Trax Crossover SUV played a pivotal role in driving overseas sales, with 30,761 units sold, followed closely by the Trailblazer compact SUV, which accounted for 19,543 units. GM Korea's current vehicle lineup includes two locally produced models, the Trailblazer and the Trax Crossover, as well as two imported models, the Colorado pickup and the GMC Sierra Denali.

Annually, GM Korea exports approximately 410,000 units of its locally produced vehicles, with around 85 percent of these destined for the United States, highlighting the significant role that export markets play in the company's overall performance.
