Gap in Approval Ratings Between PPP and DP Narrows to Margin of Error

Seoul: The gap in the approval ratings for the ruling People Power Party (PPP) and the main opposition Democratic Party (DP) has narrowed to the slimmest margin in nearly four months, a recent poll revealed on Monday.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the survey conducted by Realmeter on 1,006 individuals aged 18 and older over Thursday and Friday showed that support for the PPP rose by 6.4 percentage points from the previous week, reaching 40.8 percent. In contrast, the DP's approval rating fell by 3 percentage points, landing at 42.2 percent.

The difference in approval ratings between the two parties shrunk to 1.4 percentage points, a significant change from the 10.8 percentage points observed last week. The pollster noted that this marks the first time in 16 weeks, since the third week of September, that the gap has narrowed to within the margin of error. This shift is attributed to a rebound in PPP support, which surpassed 40 percent for the first time since it hit 42.1 percent in the third week of July.

The poll carries a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points at a 95 percent confidence level.
