Seoul: The defense ministry announced on Wednesday that it has imposed severe disciplinary measures on four senior Army officials implicated in former President Yoon Suk Yeol's failed attempt to enforce martial law.
According to Yonhap News Agency, this decision follows a disciplinary committee meeting held by the ministry last week concerning six Army officers involved in the December 3 martial law attempt in 2024. The four officers, reportedly holding the rank of major general, have been subjected to a three-month suspension from duty.
These officers were part of a group of 34 individuals who were on a bus that departed for Seoul from Army headquarters in Gyeryong, located approximately 145 kilometers south of Seoul. The departure was ordered by former Army chief and martial law commander, Park An-su. The bus had embarked for Seoul shortly after the National Assembly voted to lift the December 3 martial law decree but returned after about 30 minutes.
Out of the six Army officers, two are still awaiting disciplinary action and are currently undergoing relevant procedures. Additionally, the ministry has initiated a disciplinary committee meeting on Monday to address the involvement of seven more members who were on the bus during the incident.
