Seoul: The foreign ministry announced on Thursday that it has sent a letter to foreign diplomatic missions in Seoul to assure them that the recent martial law attempt by President Yoon Suk Yeol has had minimal impact, and the nation remains secure. According to Yonhap News Agency, the diplomatic letter was delivered to all foreign embassies and missions on Wednesday and has also been made available on Diplonet, the government-run online administrative service for foreign diplomats. Ministry spokesperson Lee Jae-woong explained during a press briefing that the letter emphasizes the lifting of martial law in line with democratic processes, maintaining public safety and order. The correspondence further assures that South Korea's economic foundations are solid, as indicated by the unchanged sovereign credit ratings from international rating agencies like S and P. It also mentions that there are no unusual developments in North Korea and that the security situation remains stable. Lee added that they have reque sted the missions to report to their home countries that there is no need for adjustments to travel advisories for South Korea, as there is no impact on daily life, tourism, or the economy. The ministry's action comes as several countries have been revising their travel alerts for South Korea following President Yoon's unexpected martial law declaration on Tuesday night and its subsequent lifting on Wednesday morning. Foreign embassies in Seoul have issued notices on their websites and social media platforms advising caution for travelers heading to South Korea. The U.S. State Department continues to maintain its travel advisory for South Korea at the lowest alert level, but has added an alert link connecting to the U.S. Embassy in Seoul. Similarly, Britain's Foreign and Commonwealth Office has issued a warning to alert citizens of the political situation in South Korea, while the Ukrainian and French embassies in Seoul have posted similar advisories. A diplomatic source confirmed that the same letter has been dispatched to all South Korean overseas missions to be shared with the governments of host countries.
